New Facility in Brazil Will Manufacture Israeli Technology That Makes Water Out of Air

A facility manufacturing Israeli technology that produces clean, safe-drinking water out of air will soon be built in Brazil. The plan, which was revealed at the Brazil Israel Innovation Summit at Jerusalem’s David Citadel hotel on April 2, is geared towards tackling Brazil’s ongoing challenges revolving around water shortages and drought.

The manufacturing facility is a project of the Israel-based company Watergen and will provide economic and environmental benefits to the country. In a letter of intent to Brazilian Minister of Science, Marcos Cesar Pontes, Watergen’s President and visionary, Dr. Michael Mirilashvili explained:  “The effects of this manufacturing operation will be tremendous: our lines can employ thousands of Brazilians, while improving public health and safety by providing much needed clean water. Furthermore, our solution promotes environmental safety and cost-saving by avoiding the need for costly water transportation systems and preventing the need for plastic jugs and containers.”

The facility will manufacture atmospheric water generators like the GENNY, GEN-350 and Large-scale ones. The GENNY weighs 50 kilograms and is primarily suited for homes and offices. Using ambient air, the GENNY can make up to 27 liters of water per day. The medium-scale GEN-350 weighs 800 kilograms and can produce up to 900 liters of water per day. As a transportable machine that can easily be placed on a truck or emergency response vehicle, the GEN-350 can be installed anywhere and is specially designed to assist people in locations that are not easily accessible.

The large scale atmospheric water generators can make as much as 5000 liters of water per day. They are specially designed to provide water on an industrial scale, allowing for factories and  rural communities to have instant access to pure and clean water. The large scale generators can also be installed on rooftops, helping to decentralize the supply of safe-drinking water in municipalities that have insufficient water infrastructure. All of the atmospheric water generators need no special infrastructure in order to operate except for a source of electricity.

Watergen’s efforts to make fresh, pure water available around the globe earned the company its place on the World Economic Forum’s list of the world’s top technology pioneers in 2018. At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) sponsored by the Consumer Technology Association, the GENNY was the “Best of Innovation Honoree” in the “Tech For a Better World” category.
